Overview

Fungal skin disease, also known as dermatomycosis, refers to a large group of infectious diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, hair, nails and other skin appendages caused by pathogenic fungi.

Causes

Fungi like warm and humid, the most suitable temperature for shallow fungi is 22 ℃ ~ 28 ℃. When there are conditions suitable for the growth and reproduction of fungi on the skin, ringworm is prone to occur.

The main symptoms

Dermatomycosis in pet dogs is mainly manifested as bald spots with round hairs on the skin of the head, neck and limbs, covered with gray scales. In severe cases, many ringworm spots are connected together and the course of the disease is longer.

Diagnostic criteria

In mild cases, the symptoms are not obvious, and it is necessary to take skin scales and do a microscopic examination to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment method

Griseofulvin 25-50 mg/kg body weight can be taken orally in 2-3 times for 3-5 weeks, which has a good effect on this disease. While using the systemic therapy, the affected area should be trimmed and coated with nystatin or polyaldehyde nystatin sodium ointment, and it will usually heal within 2-4 weeks. Owners who have no experience in handling should send their pets to the veterinarian for early treatment.

In addition, during treatment, special attention should be paid to the disinfection of kennels, appliances, and home environment. The disinfectant can be 2-3% sodium hydroxide solution, 5-10% bleaching powder solution, 1% peroxyacetic acid, 0.5% chlorhexidine solution, etc.
