Dog Medical Diseases – Myocarditis

Occurrence is rare, mostly secondary to certain infectious diseases, parasitic diseases, poisoning diseases, rheumatism and anemia.

Diagnosis points

Acute myocarditis usually starts with myocardial excitement, manifested by rapid and full pulse, and hyperpalpitations. Increased heart sound. The heart rate of the sick dog increases rapidly after a little exercise, even if the exercise stops, it can still last for a long time . When the myocardium appears malnutrition and degeneration, it is mainly manifested as the symptoms of heart failure, and the second heart sound can often be heard significantly weakened, often accompanied by systolic murmurs, and often obvious premature contractions and arrhythmia. When the compensatory adaptability of the heart is lost, the mucosa of the sick dog will become cyanotic, highly difficult to breathe, swelling of the veins on the body, and edema of the extremities, under the chest and abdomen. If you do an ECG examination, you can see obvious changes.

Usually based on the history of the original disease, combined with the symptoms of increased myocardial excitability and cardiac function tests can help the diagnosis, that is, the pulse rate of the sick dog is measured in a quiet state. Then he measured his pulse rate after walking for 5 minutes. When suffering from myocarditis, the pulse rate cannot return to normal after 2 to 3 minutes after stopping exercise. If an electrocardiogram can be done, it will help the diagnosis of this disease.

(1) Strengthen the nursing of sick dogs to rest quietly. Stop training and homework, avoid excessive excitement and exercise, and limit excessive drinking.

(2) Promote myocardial metabolism. 15-20 mg of adenosine triphosphate, 35-50 units of coenzyme A or 25-50 mg of inosine can be used, intramuscular injection, 1-2 times a day. Or add 15~30 mg of cytochrome C. Add to 200 ml of 10% glucose solution and inject intravenously.

(3) Symptomatic treatment when high dyspnea. It is feasible to inhale people with oxygen, for dogs with oliguria and obvious edema. Diuretics can be applied.
