Eczema
Cause
First, it is often stimulated by various factors, such as moisture, insect stings and dirt.
Second, feeding and management conditions are also closely related to the occurrence of diseases, especially the unsaturated fatty acids of fish are closely related to the occurrence of eczema. Excessive intake of carbohydrates is more prone to eczema. There are also more cases in seasons with higher temperatures and higher humidity.
In summer and autumn, the disease is most common in May to September.
Diagnosis points
The most common areas for eczema are the neck, back, abdomen, the base of the tail, around the scrotum, and toe and plantar and interstitial. The main symptom is inflammation of the skin surface. At the beginning of the disease, small papules from rice grains to miliary grains can be seen, which quickly develop to the surrounding area. The coat is rough, the affected area is itchy, and the dog is agitated. Keep licking, scratching, biting or rubbing the affected part. Thereby aggravating local injury and infection. There is yellow-red exudate on the surface of eczema, which forms a crust when it dries. In severe cases, it can cause extensive skin necrosis and full-thickness exfoliation. Sick dogs are depressed, their appetite is reduced or abolished, their body temperature rises, or they die from sepsis. Eczema between the toes often does not heal.
Treatment
(1) Elimination of the cause, including treatment of existing diseases, elimination of ectoparasites, and removal of foreign bodies. Improve feeding and management conditions. Improve environmental sanitation and adjust the nutrient ratio in the feed.
(2) To reduce or stop self-injury and relieve itching, sedatives can be given, or a collar can be worn to the sick dog to prevent continued biting of the affected area.
(3) Actively carry out medical treatment. After 24 hours of using antibiotics and steroids together, the wound will be dry. Scabs formed after a few days. Or after shearing, washing, and removing the crust, apply antibiotic ointment and wrap it with a sterile bandage at the same time. Use one of the following drugs for systemic treatment. Dexamethasone 0.125~1 mg/kg body weight, subcutaneous injection; Prednisone 0.1~0.4 mg/kg body weight, intramuscular injection, 2-3 times a day ; Triamcinolone, 1~3 mg/time intra-articular injection, intramuscular or subcutaneous injection At 0.11~0.22 mg/kg body weight, it can also be taken orally at a dose of 0.25~2 mg/time. Use 1 to 2 times a day for 7 days. Those who have recurrent illnesses should pay attention to food therapy and change certain feeds.
