How to train cats to become well-behaved.

Many people think that their cats are not well-behaved because of the breed problem. Indeed, some breeds of cats will show the characteristics of the breed, such as liveliness, disorder, etc. But some cats can be trained artificially.

The principle of cat training

Cats are talented and intelligent, active by nature, like to play, and have a strong curiosity. They have a strong interest in bugs, thread balls, ropes, paper balls, and wind-swept leaves. They often play with and play with these things. Normally, cats can instinctively make various interesting movements, such as rolling, upturning, and standing upright under the teasing of the owner.

However, as long as you have patience and combined with scientific methods, cats can still be tuned and trained in a relatively short period of time. The completion of all behaviors of cats is based on neural reflexes as their physiological basis. The so-called reflex activity refers to the process in which the body’s receptors are stimulated through the activity of the nervous system to cause the body to react. The occurrence of reflex activity must be stimulated. Stimulus refers to those that can be sensed by the body’s tissue cells and can cause a certain response. Changing internal and external environmental factors. Such as tapping, pressing. Light, sound, temperature, etc. Cats have various sensitive receptors in their bodies, such as sight, hearing, smell, and various temperature, pain, and tactile receptors in the skin. They can all feel different stimuli and turn these stimuli into nerve excitement process. When the excitement reaches the brain along the afferent nerves, the brain immediately responds and sends instructions to the effectors (muscles, glands, etc.) through the efferent nerves to make the effectors make corresponding actions.

Animal reflexes can be divided into two categories: unconditioned reflex and conditioned reflex. Unconditioned reflex is a congenital reflex that is born, and it is the most basic and important reflex activity for animals to maintain life. For example, kittens can breastfeed and breathe when they are born. Stimuli that can cause unconditioned reflexes are called unconditioned stimuli, such as food, touch, and slapping. Conditioning reflex is the neural reflex activity that is gradually formed by adapting to the living environment in the process of life after an animal is born. This kind of reflex is a high-level neural activity that ensures a high balance between the animal body and the surrounding environment. It is a habit formed in the process of feeding and management and various abilities cultivated through training. This is a reflex activity unique to an individual.

Cat training method

1. Forcing

Force refers to a means of using mechanical stimuli and threatening passwords to force cats to complete actions accurately and smoothly. When training the cat to lie down, the trainer will put the cat down by hand while issuing the “lie down” command to force the cat to lie down. After repeating this several times, the cat will quickly form a conditioned reflex to lie down.

2. Induction

Induction is a means of inducing cats to make actions with delicious food and trainer’s actions. For example, while issuing the “come” command, the trainer takes a piece of cat’s favorite food and shakes it in front of it, but does not give it to the cat, and while backing up, the trainer keeps issuing the “come” command. In this way, the cat will follow the temptation of food, and quickly form a conditioned reflex. The induction method is most suitable for kittens.

3. Reward

Reward refers to the means adopted in order to strengthen the correct action of the cat or consolidate the preliminarily formed conditioned reflex. Reward methods include food, caress and praise. Reward and compulsion must be used in combination to be effective. At the beginning, each time the cat is forced to make the correct action, then the reward must be given immediately. As the training progresses, rewards will be given after completing some complex actions. Only in this way can the rewards be fully utilized.

4. Punishment

Punishment is a method used to prevent cats from incorrect actions or abnormal behaviors, including reprimanding, tapping on the head and neck, etc. The degree of punishment should be determined according to the specific situation and the cat’s temperament. Don’t hit the cat’s head excessively and force its tail to make it too frightened. The use of punishment should also be minimized during training to prevent cats from feeling scared and bored with training.

Training a cat is not as simple as a dog. The training of a cat takes a relatively long time, so it requires continuous training by the owner.
